The invisibility of women in the audiovisual industry dates back to the conception of cinema. Directors such as Alice Guy, Adela Sequeyro, Matilde Saleny, María Isabel Sánchez-Concha, Kira Muratova and Nutsa Gogoberidze were by the side of the cameras from the beginning, silently making their way through history and leaving the baton to the new generations of directors. filmmakers.

In this XII edition, we have women as a central focus, both as characters within the various audiovisual narratives, and as participants in the film industry, in front of and behind the cameras. We not only seek to support the visibility of their work, but also as a "person", a situation that tends to be relegated by being objectified and pigeonholed within the gender roles that have been imposed over time. Therefore, showing her in all areas of her life has been essential for the construction of our programming; from her social and political liberation – still unfinished – to the free experience of her sexuality to the fullest on her own terms.

This XII edition of the AL ESTE Festival will run from May 26 to June 18 via El Ekran; It will be two weeks of a lot of cinema, master classes, talks and other events that we hope you can enjoy as much as we do.
