Lima, October 2, 2020.- From October 1 to 11, the realization, digitally, of the XI edition of the Festival AL ESTE is announced, which presents on this side of the world the most outstanding films from Central and Eastern Europe, South America and Asia. The AL ESTE Festival has positioned itself in Peru as a reference in works of the seventh art that are not usually seen in our region, and that, in addition, arrive as a scoop directly from the most important festivals in the world.

Among the virtual events to be held is the celebration of the centenary of the premiere of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", a masterpiece of German expressionist cinema, by director Robert Wiene, thanks to the support of the Goethe Institut.

Robert Wiene worked at the UFA (German Film Company, which exists to this day) and rose to fame in 1920 directing The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the high point of the movement that became known as "early German expressionism" because of its theatrical influence and aesthetic treatment of the frames. Expressionist art was a counter-art: against naturalism, impressionism and smooth lines. There were also expressionist developments in the literature, music, theater and dance of those years.

“Caligari” was a project originally offered to another great filmmaker of the time, such as Fritz Lang (“Metropolis”), and finally commissioned to Wiene, who gave it a theatrical touch that continues to be an influence on the aesthetics of cinema today.

This version, restored by the MURNAU Foundation, arrives for the first time in our country as part of the AL ESTE Festival, and to celebrate 100 years since its premiere, thanks to the support of the Goethe Institut of Lima. It will be presented as a Film-Concert, and will be musicalized by the electronic music duo "Warsovia" and the producer and guitarist "Khuzok".

The band Warsaw was created in early 2012 by Dante Gonzales and Fernando Pinzás, with the idea of combining analog synthesizers with the energy of punk. Since then, they have performed on different stages of the capital. In 2019, HBO chose his song "They want blood" as the main theme of the series "Los Espookys!". Currently, they are preparing the release of their second album, entitled "Design and destroy".

The screening of "Caligari" will be preceded by a Conversation on German cinema through the Al Este Festival's Facebook page, which will be free. The film will be presented at the virtual closing ceremony of the Festival, on Saturday, October 10 at 7:00 pm through the ELEKRAN.COM platform. To purchase your tickets and subscriptions to the Festival AL ESTE, to see the entire program for a single payment, you can do so through www.elekran.com
