Kubelka. perspective and hindsight

kubelka.jpg

This program proposes to revisit the trajectory of Peter Kubelka
essential figure to understand the history of cinema
experimenter of all time. Together with the filmmaker we have
designed this route that is proposed as a blinking ritual,
unique moments contributed by the experience of the projection in
film support. Through this corpus-ritual, we will be able to address the
appreciation of his conceptualization of “metric cinema” and his
different stages.
We are interested in highlighting the Latin Americanist perspective from the
which this program addresses. For this we will take an event that
according to Kubelka it helped to affirm his career. It's about the
international documentary and experimental film festivals
SODRE where the filmmaker participated in the experimental category
in addition to visiting in person in the fourth edition. A
early in his career, the filmmaker was challenged by the field
Viennese culture and participation in this festival gave him the
necessary dimension to constellate your vision. That's why this
The exhibition invites us to rethink the historical narratives that
have valued the contribution of the events that occurred in
Latin America to experimental cinema as a whole.
Beyond questioning the cinema and with this everything that is conceived
as an image, Kubelka's work deals with the study of
architecture, spatial design, deconstruction of matter
cinematography, the anthropology of music, restoration and
film preservation, among many other issues. It's a
thinker and theoretician on the modes of production that accompany
experimental realization, a fact that leads him to be co-founder of
Anthology Film Archives of New York and Austrian Film Museum,
in addition to creating a film school and collaborating with groups and
institutions around the world.
